Clearly I have paid too little attention to the quality of my sleep over the years…probably because in my youth I could sleep anywhere. Any armchair, couch, floor, car seat. Whatever. But as I’m approaching 50, a good night’s sleep requires actual comfort, and I’m finding this mattress topper to me an invaluable alley in giving me the comfort I need to rest.
I don’t have anything to compare the Sleep Innovations Memory Foam topper to other than regular mattresses, and for all I know something like an adjustable “sleep number” style bed might provide even greater comfort…but this topper represents a relatively low-cost solution that meets my immediate desire for fewer aches keeping me awake and less stiffness upon rising in the morning.
The pad is fairly easy to put down (although doing it by myself was a little challenging–it would probably be better to do it as a couple if possible) and the memory foam did just as the instructions said it would and sort of opened up and assumed its proper shape…almost as if by magic.
The memory material is surprisingly heavy and dense-feeling, except that it has what I’ll call “intelligent give,” depressing in the areas with the greatest pressure on them and allowing the surrounding, less-indented material provide support, so one sort of suspends above pressure points rather than resting on them. Initially I thought that the topper might do double-duty sometimes as padding for sleeping bags on camping trips, but it is far too heavy for efficient travel and really does serve best as it was intended–atop a regular mattress.
Two minor concerns that I have not yet had the opportunity to test adequately: I sense that the material, being semi-porous, might be a magnet for odors and require special cleaning. And sex. I haven’t had any on the topper yet, but I wonder what the impact will be. It could go either way, I suppose, but I imagine it having a largely deleterious effect. But accommodations can no doubt be made (aren’t they usually?).
Final comment: I’ve reviewed books and other products as part of the Vine Program many times by now and this is the first time that the product came accompanied by a personal note from the CEO of the company. I think it’s a risk sending out products to be reviewed…we are anonymous and could say something highly critical and not necessarily true (at least not for everyone), so it’s in act of faith on the part of the companies that provide the things being reviewed in both the winningness of their products, and the integrity of the reviewer. I get the strong sense from the note and the packaging and just the willingness of Sleep Innovations to put this product out for testing and review that they believe very strongly in their product, and will stand behind it as a result. The assertive way they solicited feedback tells me that they truly commit to satisfaction, which as a consumer I always take as a good sign.

This pad was a bit difficult to get on. (It takes 2 people) But was worth it once we got it on the bed.

I’ll have to take the company’s word for it that a lot of scientific expertise went into designing the Sleep Innovations 2-Inch Memory Foam Queen Mattress Topper. It looks just like any other big piece of foam, though it admittedly feels rather interesting to the touch (good thing it comes with its own zippered cover) and is apparently very dense. When all is said and done though, it’s like having a new mattress, and it really does feel great. What I particularly love about it is that it even works well on the floor when you need an extra bed. Very handy if air mattresses frustrate you as they do me. I didn’t find it difficult to set up at all myself, no more than working with a mattress anyway. A very nice product for those seeking a comfortable sleeping solution, whether you have a bed to lay it on or not.

The least you need to know: If you have a mattress, get it. Now.
The Sleep Innovations memory foam is a God-send. A new father of a 10-month-old baby, I am sorely sleep-deprived and I search out everything that can help and the memory foam couldn’t have come at a better time.
Using it is simpler than donuts: unfurl, put on mattress, put your bed linens on as usual, sleep. The pressure depression centers that usually develop on a mattress over time are made irrelevant as your body sinks into the memory foam and is gently but firmly cushioned and supported. Turning over amazingly on this surface is dampened enough that your partner feels almost nothing.
The only possible caveat I’ve found is the need to buy deeper bedspreads. For the price, it’s wonderful–I just don’t have the cash to plunk down on one of those ultra-high-end mattresses when this does the job just insanely well.
Highly recommended.

this product is very well made…provides comfort it advertises…not like the stuff that claims to be so great and is wimpy.

I love the way this mattress topper adjusts to your body and supports it. It feels wonderful to fall asleep on, yet I wake up a few hours later because it retains heat so well that I’m way too warm to sleep comfortably. The weather is cooling off, and I’m hoping during the freezing winter nights that the heat retention will be a good thing.
It came compressed in a small box, so I assumed it would take a few days for it to plump up. Not so. Right out box, it fully expanded, and maybe that was because the weather was warm. It’s rather heavy, so it’s easier to put on the bed if you have someone to help you center it over the cover before you begin zipping. The cover is made to fit over your mattress like a fitted sheet and it has a zippered pocket on top that holds the mattress topper. It took a little tucking and tugging to get the topper zipped in, but it wasn’t too bad. It’s only been a week, so I haven’t washed the cover yet, but I’ll do an update to this review to let you know how it holds up.
There was a chemical smell right out of the box that alarmed me, because I’m extremely chemically sensitive, but it went away within 24 hours.
All in all, I would recommend this to a friend, especially if they were cold-natured because this will keep you nice and cozy.
