My old mattress was hard and lumpy. My back was killing me. Faced with disposing of the old mattress and replacing it with a pillow-top style for hundreds of dollars and hours of labor or buying a piece of foam to put on top for the fraction of the price, I went this route.

The 1.5 inch thickness allowed me to tuck it under my fitted sheet. Although these foam toppers can be many times thicker, I have never felt like it was bottoming out. This is the perfect thickness. As soon as I tried it out, my eyes closed and I felt so relaxed. Unlike an ordinary mattress, my weight is more evenly distributed. I don’t feel pressure points and flat spots. My back felt better after only one night. As far as comparing memory foam to a pillow top mattress, it’s a tough call. Pillow top is a bit more firm.

Other foam products have received negative reviews for the odor. I suppose any new foam product will have a slight odor to it. This one had a “new car” type of smell to it and the manufacturer says it will dissipate in a few days – but, I don’t find it all that bad.

For the price, this can be replaced every few years if it becomes stained or ripped.

This was my first purchase from Amazon.com and I am very pleased. I purchased two queen size 1 1/2″ Aerus mattress toppers for our guest rooms. The price was extremely reasonable and the shipping was free. Each guest mattress is firm and older but still in good condition. The memory foam was cut true to size and completely covered each mattress. I slept on one to try it out. The topper has greatly improved the quality of my sleep on this older mattress. It conformed to my body’s shape giving wonderful soft feeling comfort and support and sprang back to its original shape when I got up. It was like a new mattress. Our guests may never want to go home!

I bought this 1.5 inch pad because my mattress (5 years old) which I bought when I moved here but wasn’t sure how long I would stay, is not super-great. I wanted a somewhat softer surface. Since I live in “rural” Alaska, a new mattress was $$$$$ so I thought I’d get a pad w/ free shipping and see if it helped. I also wanted a pad that would fit under my current mattress pad and sheets. My choice was limited by what would free-ship to Alaska (more restricted than free-shipping to the lower 48.

When I received this 1 1/2 inch pad, I was taken aback – it was wound up in a package so tightly some parts were compressed to less than half an inch. It had creases and seams in it from the folding and rolling. I unrolled it (with some effort since it had to be unpeeled carefully as it was so compressed that parts were sticking to each other).

So I mentally composed my letter complaining about it, believing that there was no way on Earth that it could uncompress or that those seams would disappear, and left it alone. Three hours later I came back and it had totally uncompressed and relaxed! Every part was 1 1/2 inch as advertised and there were no visible seams! It was a miracle!

I ended up with a 1 1/2 inch pad, perfectly fitted to my Queen size mattress. It is easily compressed but recovers 100%. It does compress easily (but recovers). I “hit bottom” on it when sitting up in bed or lying on my side when my hip “hits bottom”. But it does provide more cushion so my shoulder, and probably hips but to a lesser extent, are more cushioned. I seem to be sleeping more restfully since it is more comfy when I toss and turn.

So – not perfect, but reminiscent of “padded” mattresses – and worth it for the price for me (including free shipping to “rural” Alaska). So I give it 4 stars because based on the price etc. I really didn’t expect more. It didn’t quote a foam rating so maybe those who can get better values shipped to other states might fare better, but this works as a mattress pad to enhance my current mattress.

Oh – and it did have a slight “chemical smell” like a household cleaner when first unwrapped. It is slowly disappearing (I have to bury my nose in it to smell it after the first few days).

I purchased the foam topper in hopes to alleviate lower back pains I developed. After using the foam topper for several months, my back pain actually got worse. I observed that my lower back pain becomes worse when I sleep on my back vs. on my side using this topper.

At first, I thought its just me. And that I should not expect a miracle from this product. However, the big kicker was…my wife began to develop lower back and buttocks strain and pain during these several months of use. We’ve removed the topper and both of us made small recoveries in lower back pain.

I cannot say that it won’t work for those potential buyers reading this now, but I just had to share our experience this product.

I am not sure if the thicker foam toppers would be better, but if I had to make a choice, I might just go all out and go for one of those actual tempurpedic mattresses instead. Hope it helps.

I ordered the bed and the foundation June 1st and it arrived today…June 3rd! Wow! The delivery estimation was June 10th! Great job! Yes, the “chemical” smell was present when I opened it up, however, it hasn’t lingered too long. I catch a whiff of it from time to time, but I’ve had it for hours, not days. The mattress is new, unblemished, and expanded quickly. Tonight is my first night sleeping on it, so I’ll let you know in a couple of days how it went! I have numerous back and neck complaints, which is why I sought out a memory foam mattress…not wanting to pay Tempur-pedic prices. When you put a sheet over this topper and your crib mattress, it becomes VERY snug and compact.

Our daughter, now 19 months, has spent her entire life on our memory foam bed and is still breathing and alive.

When we transitioned to a toddler bed just recently her crib mattress is hard enough to bounce quarters off of and she was tossing and turning all night long.

The topper made a huge difference for her.

Would I put a newborn on this? Not sure. But our newborns sleep with us in our bed, not alone in a crib.

We were having trouble getting our 18m old son to sleep in his own bed. He was used to sleeping in our bed with us. When he would fall asleep in our bed, we would move him into his room to his bed. The minute he touched the mattress he would wake right up. I was looking to buy a new toddler mattress when I came across this mattress topper. What a difference!! I can’t say that he is sleeping through the night yet, but we no longer have to let him fall asleep in our bed. He climbs right into his bed without a fuss. The only issue we had with the topper was the smell. We had to let it air out for a few days b/c the smell was so strong. We have had it for a few weeks now and the smell is almost gone, definately not as strong. All in all, great product. We are very happy!!

This mattress came rolled up, about the size of a heavyweight punching bag. I unwrapped it, and let it sit on my floor to air out it took about 12 hours to come to full form. After that, it felt wonderful. I slept through the night, never waking, and felt refreshed in the morning. The smell was a little weird, but putting sheets over it solved the problem mostly. Also, if you’re trying to save money by buying this, opt out of the two extra pillows and pay less for just the mattress. I found two much more decently sized pillows at the local Bed Bath and Beyond for .00. If you want save even more money, make your own foundation for the bed. I used two by fours, some plywood, and six cinderblocks, all dressed up with a little fabric to make it look good. All in all, a very good mattress for the money. Time will tell if it holds out.

Especially compared to the price this mattress is one of the deals of the century. I tested several mattresses in department stores that felt not as comfortable and were triple the price. I was hesitant at the beginning because I don’t believe in purchasing mattresses without testing them first (we spend too much of our lives on them) but I listened to my instinct and my wallet. I was more pleased than I was expected. Mattress came wrapped up and compressed (making it easy to move it around) and It took about 24 hours for it to get to its actual size. Yes, the smell was not that pleasant but not that horrible either. I burnt some essential oils and left my bedroom’s window open and there you go, smell disappeared the day after. I am a lover of extra firm mattress and please note that this feels… really firm. Quality of my sleep improved. Shipping was super punctual, mattress was delivered the first day of the window I was given.

I was very happy with the speed of the delivery of this mattress, as well as the packaging, and quality. I ordered a bedframe when I ordered the mattress, but the bedframe has not yet arrived, and the mattress has been on a sheet of plastic, on the bedroom floor for 18 days. Today, when I removed the sheets, I discovered that the layers of bedding were drenched, and that there was a uniform layer of moisture droplets under the entire mattress, where it touched the layer of plastic–everything on the underside of the mattress (fitted sheet edges, mattress protector edges, liner) was moldy. This was not due to spills or leakage, it was that the mattress (though covered with all of the above and a quilt) acted like a GIANT SPONGE, drawing moisture from the air, and allowing it to condense on the underside.

Every product ever sold has high and low quality versions manufactured. Memory foam mattresses toppers are no different. If you want to purchase a good quality memory foam mattress topper that does what it is supposed to do you need to know what to look for when buying that topper. Here are some things that you know about memory foam before rushing out to purchase a new mattress topper for your bed.

Density

The density of your memory foam mattress topper is extremely important. Density is measured in pounds per cubic foot. The higher the density of your mattress the better it will conform to your body and the longer the mattress topper will last. Memory foam runs from a density of 1 to 5. Anything over 4.5 is considered to be a high density and the best choice for a mattress topper as it will conform to your body better and will last you far longer than a mattress topper with a density of 2 or 3. The density should be clearly marked on the topper if it is not then ask. Don’t buy a topper with a low density rating or one that is not marked because chances are that these are inferior toppers.

Thickness

Many people confuse density with thickness when it comes to memory foam mattress toppers. They are not at all the same thing. You can have a 2 inch mattress topper with a density of 4 or 5 and a 4 inch thick mattress topper with a density of only 2. If those are your only choices you will be better off with the two inch thick mattress as the density of the less thick mattress topper will conform better to your body than that of the four inch mattress topper. Ideally however, a three or four inch topper with a density of 4.5 will be the best choice.

Amount of Memory Foam

Many times that mattress topper you buy is not all memory foam. It is loaded with fillers. While memory foam mattresses actually need layers of other materials to keep them from being too soft, your topper is going to be laying on top of a mattress already made of other materials, so you want your topper to be as close to 100% memory foam as you can find. Placing a topper that is only 20% memory foam on top of a hard mattress is simply not going to give you the comfort you are seeking.

If you make sure that your memory foam mattress topper is high density, reasonably thick and actually contains more memory foam than filler you will get the full benefits that these toppers have to offer.

My daughter got in the habit of sleeping on our temperpedic bed, so after reading all the reviews about how soft this is and how amazing other pples kids sleep on it I bought it. Within the first few days the blue cover ripped at the seams, one side was ripped off entirely so my mom sewed it back. Well that only lasted a few weeks and it tore off again, she said it was sewn too tight, not enough fabric so stretch across. Anyhow it was very cheaply put together and doesn’t feel soft to me at all. My daughter doesn’t sleep thru the night on it as she did in our bed, don’t know if thats the mattress or her but wouldn’t recommend it based on its falling apart at the seams..literally.

I have a 2yr old and I got this mattress because she doesn’t sleep well on her crib mattress but seems to love our king size memory foam mattress. So I figured it was time to get her something a little more comfortable (soft) since her infant mattress was now a bit hard. I got this mattress because I was hoping for a nice, soft mattress for her. I can feel that there is some vico padding in there, somewhere, but the amount that is in there must be at a bare minimal because this is not much softer than the one we don’t like. This by no means should be considered a “soft” bed. It may be foam, but it is a firm foam. Do not buy this if you are looking for a “memory foam” mattress. We ended up finding a mattress elsewhere that was much cheaper, yet so much more comfortable.
